Music Master 3000 is a free web app for learning bass and training your ears. This page explains what it collects, why, where it goes and how you can see or remove it. The short version: we keep what we need to save your progress, we count app use only if you say yes, your microphone never leaves your device, and we don't sell anything or show ads.
Music Master 3000 is run from New South Wales, Australia, and we aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. Questions or requests: privacy@musicmaster3000.com.
Using the app without an account
You can use the app without signing in. Your progress, settings and libraries are then kept only in your browser (in its local storage and IndexedDB). Nothing about your practice is sent to us. You can wipe it at any time in Settings, under Privacy and your data → Clear this browser, or by clearing your browser's site data.
If you create an account
Accounts are run by Google Firebase Authentication. You can sign up with an email address and password, or with Google (in which case Google shares your name and email address with us). Firebase stores your sign-in details; your password is never visible to us.
When you're signed in, the app syncs the following to our database (Google Cloud Firestore) so it follows you between devices:
- your progress, scores, streaks and accomplishments in each mode and book;
- your display name and preferences (instrument, tuning, sound, practice reminder time and similar settings);
- libraries you create: licks, sequences, tunes and practice plans;
- for the transcription helper, a record of each job, including the file name you chose.
We use this only to run the app for you.
Library suggestions
When you add a lick or ear exercise to your own library, you can tick a box to suggest it for the shared library. Only then is a copy sent to us for review, together with your user ID so you can delete it later. The box is off unless you turn it on.
Usage statistics (optional)
With your permission, the app sends anonymous usage events to Google Analytics: that the app was opened, which mode or exercise was started, that a round was completed, that a streak advanced or an accomplishment was unlocked, and that an account was created. These events don't include your name, email, notes or recordings. Google Analytics also records general information such as your browser, device type and approximate location (from your IP address).
Nothing is sent until you choose. The app asks once; you can change your answer at any time in Settings under Anonymous usage stats. If you say no, Google Analytics isn't loaded.
Your microphone
Many exercises listen to you play or sing. The sound is analysed inside your browser to work out which note you played. Microphone audio is never uploaded to us or anyone else. Recordings you make in Deliberate Practice are stored only in your browser. Audio files you open in the transcription helper also stay on your device.
Services that see your connection
Like any website, loading the app means your browser connects to the services that deliver it. Each sees your IP address and basic browser information:
| Service | What for |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Hosts the website and keeps short-lived access logs for security. |
| Google Firebase | Sign-in, synced data and (if you allow it) analytics. |
| Google Fonts | Typefaces. |
| jsDelivr and GitHub Pages | Instrument sound samples. |
Google's servers may be outside Australia, including in the United States. By using an account you agree to your synced data being stored there. Google and Cloudflare are bound by their own privacy and security commitments.
What we don't do
- We don't sell or rent your information.
- We don't show ads or use advertising trackers.
- We don't send you marketing email.
How long we keep it
Synced data is kept for as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your sign-in, your synced data and your library suggestions are deleted straight away, and the app clears the browser you deleted from. Copies in Google's backups expire on Google's schedule. Analytics data is kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months.
Your choices and rights
In Settings, under Privacy and your data, you can:
- download your data as a single file;
- turn usage statistics on or off;
- delete your account and everything synced to it.
You can correct your display name and preferences in Settings. For anything else, including a request to access or correct information, email privacy@musicmaster3000.com and we'll reply within 30 days. If you live in the UK or European Union you also have the rights given by the GDPR, and the same email reaches us.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, tell us first. If we don't resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or to the data protection authority where you live.
Children
The app is meant for people aged 13 and over. Younger learners are welcome with a parent's or guardian's permission, and we'd suggest they use it without an account. If you think a child has given us information without permission, email us and we'll delete it.
Security
Data travels over encrypted connections. Our database rules let each account read and write only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don't use anywhere else.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how your information is used, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
